Interested in throwing your own office pumpkin carving party? Here are some tips we learned along the way:
Have a variety of themed categories and prizes. We chose: “Monster-ously Silly”, “Fang-tastically Frightening”, “Deathly Dramatic”, and “Spooktacular Favorite.”
Plan for an afternoon of carving time, followed by a few days of voting. We started at 4PM and provided lots of pumpkin spiced fuel to keep the contestants going. We wanted to make sure everyone in the company would have an opportunity to view and vote on the pumpkins, including our remote employees, so we took lots of pictures and published a contest portal for internal voting.
Offer a diverse set of tools. This year we went with traditional carving kits, but next year we might try adding in some paint and other decorating tidbits.
Cover every table and floor with plastic for easy cleanup.
Don't forget candles. We picked up some electric LED candles for safety.
Suggest that employees bring a change of clothes or an apron.
Embrace the silliness - there’s no better team bonding than dancing to Thriller while covered in pumpkin guts!
